F&B Services Module 07, Unit 7854 First Aid (F&B07)

Description
INTRODUCTION
At work, injuries and illnesses kill more than two million in the world each year. That’s one death in every fifteen seconds.

Safe practices and healthy choices at work can prevent many injuries, illness, diseases and deaths. However, once injury or sudden illness has occurred, providing effective first aid can make a difference between life and death; rapid versus prolonged recovery and temporary versus permanent disablement.

DEFINITION OF FIRST AID
First aid is the aid that is given to an injured or sick patient on the scene, before more advanced help arrives. First aid is also called primary emergency care. It is usually performed by non-expert, but trained personnel to a sick or injured person until definitive medical treatment can be accessed. Certain self-limiting illnesses or minor injuries may not require further medical care past the first aid intervention. It generally consists of a series of simple and in some cases, potentially life-saving techniques that an individual can be trained to perform with minimal equipment.
